Hon. Director of Research Center – Dr. M. P. Arya (Former Principle, Ex. Secretary CCH, Member CCRH)

This Research Unit was established by the M. T. E. Society, in November 2008 in the memory of our past Chairman late Padmashree Annasaheb Beharay and is known by the name PADMASHREE S. M. BEHARAY HOMOEOPATHIC RESEARCH CENTER. The formal inauguration of the Center was hold on 9th November 2008 at the hands of Dr. Shobha Bachhav Minister of Health, Govt. of Maharashtra and Dr. Arun Bhasme Vice-President, Central Council of Homoeopathy, New Delhi and Dean MUHS, Nashik.

Following are the Objectives of the R & D Center :

  1. To undertake any research programme in homoeopathy which it deem fit, necessary and within the means of the institution.
  2. To disseminate the knowledge and information pertaining to research in homeopathy by publishing scientific papers, through publication of the scientific data in the journals and sharing the result with governmental agencies and press other organization engaged in similar activities for the benefits of the public. Holding workshops, symposia, seminar, round table conference and scientific discussion etc.
  3. To intimate, aid develop and coordinate scientific research in different aspects of homoeopathy-fundamental and applied and to exchange information and to help and undertake collaborative studies in the field of homeopathic medicine.
  4. To undertake experimental research work in connection with the prevention and treatment of common disorders of the State and National importance.

Various research activities of this center will fall under one or the other areas as under :

  • Clinical Research projects
  • Clinical Verification research projects
  • Drug proving research programme
  • Collaborative studies with other organization of higher learning
  • Survey, collection and analysis, experimental and clinical studies of medicinal plants in the region.

The center will be an important link between the undergraduate and post-graduate wings of the college and its teaching hospital from which it will derive its resources and strengthen their teaching and training in return.

The Principal/Vice Principal Heads of the Deptt. of the college and their teaching staff (UG and PG) Hon. Physicians / Visiting Consultant in the associated hospital thus shall be Center's human resources on the voluntary basis.

The Principal, if he can devote time to its day to day management besides his other responsibilities or otherwise the Vice-Principal should be responsible as the administrative head. It is also necessary that he or she should also be directing the post graduate department for smooth coordination of the R & D Center. These research programmes will be taken up as off-shoots of the P.G. studies in our college which will fulfill the needs of regulating authorities also for PG training / curriculum.

Any one of the above can voluntarily be part of the activities of this centre. They, however, will not be paid any additional remuneration for these activities but they will get the credit of their work and publication of research papers and participation in reading scientific papers at the national and international forums. At a later stage, if and when the governmental agencies fund some of the research activities of the center and there is a provision of Honorarium in those scheme, it shall be paid to them accordingly.

Research Scheme

  1. Clinical Research
    Controlled prospective, retrospective studies on common acute and chronic disorders with homoeopathic medicine vis a vis placebo / conventional treatment. These will be single blind/double and randomized studies These studies will be diseases oriented or drug oriented and the result will be examined statistically for their significance and validity of result. All the studies will be in accordance of the protocol drawn and baseline stipulated in advance. These studies will encompass disorders commonly met in medical, surgical (where conservative approach medicinal is possible) gynaec, pediatric, dermatological, and psychiatric domains.

  2. Clinical Verification Research
    Homoeopathic materia medica contains sign and symptoms produced on healthy human beings while taking drug in the experimental studies called Proving of the drugs. This knowledge and data can be applied on patients having similar symptoms and sign to verify their validity and utility of this information in tackling some of the common disorders. These studies are similar to the clinical trials both in approach and methodologies. This verificational study will prove the validity of old information available in the homoeopathic materia medica and to prove old claim about the efficacy of these known drugs on scientific experimental studies.

  3. Homoeopathic Pathogenic trials ( Provings)
    This is an important area inclusive of new remedies in the homoeopathic materia medica from different sources like known medicines used in modern medicine, utility of data of some of the toxicity studies of medicines used in modern medicine and medicines used in Ayurved etc. in their ultra dilutions used homoeopathic medicines.

  4. Collaborative studies
    Some of the research project will be undertaken in collaboration with other higher institutions of repute like Botanical source of India, National Aids Research Institute, National Chemical Laboratory , Institute of virology, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Bhaba Atomic Research Center, Zoological survey of India, Serum Institute some of which are already engaged in homoeopathic research where sophisticated experiment are to be mounted, once we make significant progress in our endeavours.

  5. Survey and collection of Medicinal Plant Materials
    Collection of medicinal plants commonly used in other disciplines of medicine and could be profitably utilized in the homoeopathic methodologies and their inclusion in the homoeopathic materia medica. Inclusion of source material from the flora and fauna resources.
